![]() Here I'll be walking through the steps using Affinity Photo, but that's by no means the only way to make LUTs. In that case you'll need to create your own LUT. The built-in LUTs are great, but maybe you're a photographer with your own presets or you need a particular look. By adjusting the strength and layering a few color corrections together, you can create tons of interesting looks without ever needing to leave Lens Studio. ![]() When your color correction is selected in the Objects Panel, there will be an "Alpha" slider present in the Inspector Panel which will allow you to control the strength of the color correction. ![]() To add one of the built-in LUTs, click on the "+" button in the Objects Panel, find the "Color Correction" entry, and then choose the LUT you want to use. You can control the strength of each color correction to dial in the exact look you want for your lens. The easiest way to add a color correction would to be import one or more of those built-in LUTs. I have a handy visual reference guide to all of them here. Lens Studio comes with 39 different LUTs built right in. Lens Studio has quite a few built-in, or you can create your own using something like Photoshop. Instead, they are particular png images that have had color corrections applied to them. Lens Studio uses LUTs to apply color corrections, but they aren't quite the same as what video editors or Photoshop uses. A color correction will help you achieve a particular aesthetic or feel for the lens.Ĭolor corrections might be applied as presets in the case of photos or as LUTs (lookup tables) in the case of video. The Snaps you send to your friends might not be as refined as a Hollywood blockbuster, but you can certainly use some color correction in your lenses the same way the movies do. It might be to enhance certain features of the image or to set the mood. When you see a professional photograph or go to a movie, what you are seeing is not exactly what the camera saw some sort of color correction has been applied. Since many smartphones already shoot 4K videos, the quality probably won’t be so bad if the optics are designed well.Watch on YouTube Why add a color correction? They are also working on an app which would make creating and sharing spherical videos a lot easier. The smartphone version could be especially interesting in my opinion. Sphereoptics is currently developing a sphere lens for the GoPro and for smartphones as well. ![]() According to the creators, the process is so easy it can be done on your average iOS or Android device. Converting the video to a spherical shape for VR viewing is easy and fast through pixel mapping. The resolution is therefore only dependent on the smallest dimension of the sensor. The device uses a special toroidal mirror with a reflective surface and series of optical elements to capture the full sphere of light around the lens into a circle-like image on the camera sensor. ![]() The image outcome will get better in line with the sensors used, which is an excellent feature of the device. If you wanted a better quality image you could mount the lens to a RED Cinema camera and shoot in significantly higher resolution, such as 6K. This lens gives you the ability to shoot conventional content with your personal camera and then quickly switch lenses and record a spherical video with the same body. The aperture is fixed at f/8 and focus is fixed as well (best at 40″/1meter).įrom the test video you can see the image quality is not perfect, but for a quick VR experience it is sufficient. It is a 35mm full frame format lens and has a Nikon F mount, but you can mount it to most cameras using an applicable adapter. The Sphere Pro lens is intended to be mounted (for best results) or held pointed upwards and it is designed to capture a 360° horizontal and 180° vertical field of view. No stitching is required so converting videos to spherical format is easier and faster. It brings 360 video capability to conventional DSLRs and mirrorless cameras. Sphere Pro lens is a new product from Sphereoptics - a young startup from New York. ![]()
